Vehicle Escort is one of the core game modes that make up Classic, released in v229 (November 30, 2018). It is the longest Classic mode available. An alternation to the game mode was introduced during Christmas 2021 that would receive the name Zombie Dead City (ZDC), available annually for Halloween and Christmas events. The difference between the two modes is minimal. Vehicle Escort is a PvP experience across two parts while ZDC is a PvE experience with survival elements across one large round. Fundamentally they are the same experience: players escort a Tank Lvl-1 along a pre-determined route.
Rules[]
- 16 minute round across two 8 minute halves
- Team vs Team setting
- Vehicles are removed from play
- An invulnerable Tank Lvl-1 must be escorted by the attacker team
- Defending team must stop attackers from getting close to the tank
- Once time runs out or tank is escorted full distance, teams swap to compete who escorts furthest
- Round ends once Team 2 finishes escort or part 2 timer ends
Each part, or half, is treated as a pseudo-round. This means that each half will initiate a game start process to refresh the map and players—removing placed Laser Trip Mines and resetting the BGM and Air Strike—while keeping score of kills, deaths, and similar statistics, while also not triggering a round-end state and bringing up the vote screen.
Round Time[]
Vehicle Escort is a unique game mode that has two halves. Rather than have one team set as attackers or defenders—the approach taken by other game modes— Vehicle Escort allows each team to challenge the other with both roles. Part one will assign one team as the escorting (or attacking) side, while the opposing team plays as defenders that must stop the tank from being escorted into their territory. Upon conclusion of the first half, team roles will be swapped and the second part commenced. Each half of the match is 8 minutes long with a brief half-time to prepare players for the changing role.
Part one will start with 8:00 on the clock. At the conclusion of part one, a 10 second window is given to communicate to the players that teams are about to swap. Part two will then begin with 8:08 on the clock. This gives a maximum match time of 16 minutes and 20 seconds for a full round of Vehicle Escort. This time may be reduced if a team is successful in escorting their tank to the end. If the attackers in part one are successful then their remaining time is subtracted from the next team's total time. This forces the second attacking team to escort the tank in the same time or faster if they wish to win. If the attackers in part two are successful before the timer ends, the round will be ended at that point. Team 2 will always win if they escort the tank to the end. This is either because they escorted the tank further than Team 1 or because they escorted their tank to the end faster than the first team did.
For example if Team 1 takes 4 minutes and 20 seconds to escort their tank then the timer will have 3:40 to subtract from team 2's time of 8:08. This will result in Team 2 having 4:28 on the clock to escort their tank.
Escorting[]
A Tank Lvl-1 will be parked within the attackers' spawn. This tank will not move unless one of the attackers stands nearby to initiate the escort. There must be at least one attacker within 3m of the tank to escort it. The defenders' role is to prevent the tank from being escorted into their own spawn. Defenders may kill escorting players to leave the tank unattended or may be within 12m of the tank to stall it.
Attackers spawn local to the tank. While the tank moves, player spawns also move. This grants attackers an advantage as they move the tank: they will always respawn close by. Despite spawning local to the tank, their actual spawn zone remains in its regular position. This means that spawn protection is not a benefit as attackers move further out. Weapon changes also cannot be made without returning to the spawn zone. If a player on the attacking team finds that on the latter half of the escort route that they would do better with different weapons, they must run back to their spawn before once again joining the fray. Defenders will have the best chance of stopping an escorted tank local to their spawn zone, as they will spawn close by and may experience the benefits of spawn protection.

Trivia[]
- As the programmers use feet despite the game displaying the metric system, the distances for attackers/defenders affecting the tank are actually 10ft and 40ft (3.048m and 12.192m)
- Vehicle Escort was added to Temple in v449 (January 17, 2022) but later removed in v458 (February 18, 2022) due to a bug with the tank sometimes getting stuck
- It was set to replace Package Drop on the map
- It featured the longest routes out of any map, taking the full allocated time of 8 mins to complete with only seconds to spare
