Content awaiting release[]

Within the game files there exist a number of cosmetics that have yet to be released, or properly released—the exception being that special crates are a pseudo-release of content that allow players to obtain these cosmetics but does not mean these cosmetics are truly released yet. For some cosmetics, they may never be released.

Obtainable[]

To players, the hallmark unreleased cosmetics are a set of random accessories. These have been the best documented unreleased cosmetics and around the longest. While these are limited to a gas mask and a ponytail, there are other cosmetics that surprisingly have gone under the hood. Perhaps because they were forgotten about or nobody saw them showcased. Important to note is that the gas mask that is unreleased is one with yellow lenses embedded within a hood; the orange lenses on a standalone mask was released and widely available. A set of three heads were also surprisingly missed until players were more observant of cosmetics with special crates. This head originates from the Synty Simple Apocalypse pack. In the pack, the character is referred to as 'Old man survivor'. The delay in addition for skin tones implies an intent to release (believed to be for the Face Crate) that fell through and was forgotten.

A majority of these bits and bobs among the unreleased accessories come from developer Silk Spider taking uniforms from released outfits and mapping out cosmetics from them. While they were meant to be sent out, there was never any evidence of the project reaching full completion and players getting things in post. Even in future sales the set outfit packs continue to leave these bonus cosmetics out. A notable case is the baton which was meant to match with multiple outfits.

When not thinking of the above accessories, the regular unreleased outfits are likely among ones set to release some time in the future. These outfits have promise to them that they will actually release unlike others that just seem forgotten, cast aside, and left to get dusty in the files. Some of these have been in the line for a while, while some are fairly recent additions.

Among these outfits likely to release, a series of outfits that were added for Halloween 2022 were thought to be intended for release for Halloween, but surprisingly have yet to see the light of day. For a while they were even blacklisted from special crates, making them completely unobtainable. Newer iterations of the special crates would add these as obtainable options, and a glowing pumpkin head that was in the selection would actually see a release for Halloween 2023 as a freebie for those participating. The others in the list of outfits were glowing forms of the Dark Matter outfit in a new purple and orange variation, as well as a variation of shadow agent and a samurai. In the case of the samurai, there was supposedly still work being done on the cosmetics. This could have meant something to cover the face or touching up on issues like the head slightly clipping through the helmet. A glowing version of the Pixel Pink Camo uniform and the TALOS exosuit were also added alongside these but were quickly released following their additions unlike the others. So long as the developers remember their existence, their release is likely and is just a matter of waiting for that time.

Similar to the above, a normally blacklisted set of cosmetics would become available in the late 2023 special crates to make the infamous White Carbon Fiber Armor obtainable. Among community members, this is perhaps one of the most sought after set of cosmetics that are not FX Items/Glowing Eyes. They hold a level of sentimental value similar to that of the Crash Test Dummy, a pseudo-official mascot of War Brokers and an outfit not expected to release.

On the unexpected side of things, the Witch received cosmetics for player use in the Halloween 2021 event. While the rewards from the event would land the player with a head, nose, and witch hat, players would not see a uniform to wear to go alongside these. While obtainable, the uniform is yet to truly release and is expected not to. This is likely due to the lack of skirt to accompany the uniform, leaving the pants to look more like bare skin. This is a cosmetic that is easily forgotten.

Likewise there is a variant of the grey glitch skin that has never been released. Three were once obtainable, these being variations of uniforms in the legacy Uniform Crate, with this fourth variation giving off the appearance of a cruise captain. While players may call it a glitched or bugged skin, it should be noted that there is no bug at play. The file itself is actually a solid grey texture. In the case of this cruise captain looking variation, it is actually the uniform attached to the texture in which the Steam-exclusive Globe head is found. It is unlikely that the developers will remember and go back to this file to add an actual texture for the uniform.

Out of all not so obvious unreleased cosmetics are those that do not even have their own icons. Head 026 in the game files looks like any old default head, yet is actually a very unique scarred face with a hair color not seen elsewhere in the game. Similarly a dark suit—typically referred to as the hitman suit to differentiate among other suits—shares an icon with the uniform of El Muerto/Muertos. While El Muerto/Muertos has uniform slot 180, this is found in slot 179. Usually it would be expected for something like this to have its own icon if it were added first. What likely happened was that both were added at the same time, but no plans had actually been set for the release of the suit yet, so the developers quickly borrowed the same image to put over the suit. The suit's addition was mostly to get the Pumpkin head into the game, as it shares the same texture file. This would interestingly lead to the inspiration for the curated outfit known as Jacked Up—a pumpkin alongside a suit.

Unobtainable[]

These exist in the game and can definitely make it to a player should a method be given to obtain them.

A vehicle cosmetic not intended to be given to players was found in early special crates. This was quietly fixed, likely accidentally added and then accidentally fixed when making a new set of crates. Only a select few lucky players unboxed it—a confirmed number of 4. There may be more, but those are unconfirmed. This is similarly seen in a developer joke head for the Jester, though this head may actually be made available at some point given it actually has an icon. The Christmas tank cosmetic has no icon given its true "unintended to own" nature. If an icon that shares the same index is loaded in the icon's position before the page with this cosmetic is loaded, then the missing icon will show the previously loaded icon. With no icon previously loaded, a blank white rectangle is seen.

Truly unobtainable cosmetics that have never had a slip in release are very few and far between. These are mostly cosmetics that underwent testing or are features in the game that have not been provided to current versions of the game (namely weapons). Among cosmetics there is one standard cosmetic that has no known reason for why it isn't even available in special crates. This is a black variation of a goggle helmet.

Other cosmetics were for testing or within the newer categories that are not included in crates: weapon skins, custom vehicle skins, and emotes.

The test skins were in testing by developer Rocky Balboa. The first was a panda dressed for a form of martial arts, a reference to Kung Fu Panda. The second was an initial test of the Overcooked Gingerdread outfit for uniform slot 800. While there is an actual file for the Overcooked Gingerdread, the panda only has a file reference referring to the panda texture under uniform slot 249. No actual icon for the inventory exists and no evidence of a head can be found in the files.

Two custom icons have been designed to show what the panda would look like if the icons existed.

Bronze, silver, and gold weapon icons exist in the files but have nothing in their associated texture files except white, something shared with the metallic skins. It is believed these will have a metallic shader similar to the metallic series. One skin in particular was clearly a test from Rocky Balboa when getting ready for players to make their own custom designs for the creator's program. That doesn't stop players from wanting the Rick Astley 'Never Gonna Give You Up' weapon skin. All a developer would have to do is add this to a crate or the shop and players could get it. It's sitting there in the files just waiting, unjustly so (though we know it will never release). Also unlikely to ever be granted to players though is the camo pattern that the Tank Lvl-1 in Halloween Vehicle Escort (ZDC) uses. While no icon exists for it—given that it is not intended for players to own—a custom one has been made to emulate how it may appear if it were to be given an icon and released.

Two emotes are also yet to release and it's unclear when they will be available. The developers have forgotten about them but are not against releasing them, as found upon reminding/asking/pestering them.

The only other "unobtainable" content in the game yet to release are weapons in the game files that have not yet been slated for release. When released the servers are updated to grant players the option to select them in the weapon select menu. Their stats are also uploaded to the servers for the server simulation to simulate their actions (the client never has the data on-hand, useful in preventing a large portion of cheating attempts). All weapons were announced generally in a list of upcoming weapons; strictly as a category of weapon. Of the list of upcoming weapon types, there are three guns still to release, an AR, a double barrel shotgun, and a SMG which was publicly stated to be a MP7.

Cut Content[]

In the Game[]

These features are in the game found within its files. Textures for cosmetics with no applied usage yet to an actual cosmetic slot for a head or uniform. Some custom icons have been made to showcase what they would look like (or used to look like) as actual additions.

Three Scandinavian heads with blue paint across their faces and a head based on the Māori people exist only in textures. Three heads for the Elvis outfit also exist but are unlikely to be made. The glasses were used as reference to make an accessory alternative instead of the glasses being baked into a head. It's likely then that the heads will not be made as to not overlap with the glasses that have greater freedom for what a player can mix and match with.

The head with inspiration on tribal tattoos from the Māori people was shown off by the cosmetics developer, Silk Spider, mid-December 2019. It is unclear what happened to its development. There may have been a concern for portraying the head—or accompanying cosmetics in a whole outfit—in a way that may be offensive. There may have been a struggle to make it work in the theme of War Brokers. Perhaps it was lost among the other cosmetic projects at the time, or simply never finished due to other responsibilities in Silk Spider's personal life. No reason has been provided. Unlike other cosmetics that would otherwise be classified as "in-progress", this head actually exists in the game files texture-wise. It simply never got to the stage of an actual head cosmetic being made to use that texture.

A texture for a blue haired female head exists and was actually a cosmetic in the past; however was later replaced by the current pink hair head. A similar case happened with a leprechaun hat and with the Flag Bandana. In the case of the leprechaun, a boxy tophat turned into more of a rounded and flat hat. With the Flag Bandana, the original icon would show the Australian flag, until later being cut in favor of the European Union. This moved the icon from a specific country to an international body, being less specific. It's interesting that the flag was not the USA flag similar to the arm patches given that the developers are based in the USA.

Concepts and Features that Never Made It[]

These features were planned or considered at a time, but were ultimately cut. Unlike cases of additions to the game files that showed partial work into implementing the cosmetic/feature, these just don't even get to sit in the game files or past plans. There are very few of these that are known, with only two cosmetics and two vehicles.

Similar to the Pig Headpiece, a second animal-inspired head-covering mask that was planned to be released alongside a costume for the 2019 Thanksgiving event. While an image of the headpiece had been shown, the cosmetic was never added and the Turkey Outfit ultimately was scrapped.

A quiver cosmetic was known to be on the to-do list for the cosmetic developer, Silk Spider. The only confirmation of this came from a private message in Discord DMs when asked if he had plans to make one. As it was brought up just after the arrival of the Medieval event's cosmetics, it was speculated that it would appear for the April Fool's Day event of 2020. This since showed to not come to fruition, and currently looks to be far from likely due to the weaker presence of Silk Spider as his personal life takes up more of his time.

The limitations to vehicles being a singular entity that acts as the player meant that vehicles that separate the concept of the vehicle body and the player's person could not be implemented. The Seal Boat was a vehicle prototype that would separate itself from the "Person vehicle type" that players control while running around on foot. Developer JoJa15 leaked the boat early in development with the image implying that it would have had room for five players to ride—with one player controlling the boat's controls and front-mounted turret. It was ultimately scrapped due to the restrictions of vehicles and no plans to redo the vehicle system.

The only other vehicle shown in concept was another little bird heli (like the Heli Lvl-2 is modeled). This would allow what appears to be up to four players. Other than the limitation of person bodies vs vehicle body, the current vehicle system only handles two players being in a vehicle at once. Vehicles such as the boat or this heli with exposed players are currently not something expected to be implemented due to the complications around them. Gossip in 2020 spread that the boat was actually ready and hadn't released maybe because waiting for a new water map, though nothing ever backed this rumor up. The degree to which the boat may have been ready is likely only down to movement speed and damage of the turret.
