Temple is a map that released on in v125 (February 12, 2018). Internally it was referred to as both "Temple" and "Jungle" due to the jungle features present in the map. Some players would use the term "Jungle" despite the map being titled as "Temple" close to its release; however this would die off as players began to grow accustomed to the proper name.

Almost 4 years later on June 9th, 2022, the map would be temporarily removed in v472 (June 9, 2022) until its reintroduction in 498 (December 19, 2023) a little over a year after its removal. During this period of absence, Tomb took its place. This had been done to accommodate suggestions for Tomb to be brought back while allegedly replacing Temple to reduce the download bundle size. A statement from the developer JoJa15 stated "We may add/remove maps as a rotation in the future."

Layout[]

The playable area of the map is encased within an elongated hexagon–shaped wall. There are four large Mayan-like temples that enclose a smaller temple structure in the middle. Teams' spawns sit either side of the map at each far corner within small military outposts. Trees and rocky outcrops both large and small fill the remaining area.

Strategy[]

Temple poses opportunities for both sniping and mid-range combat. The temples and rock outcrops give a wide angle of view over the battlefield, and are perfect for snipers' use. Each team has a Helicopter Level 2, APC Level 1, and Tank level 1 on Temple.

Temple boasts a combination of both tight and open spaces, meaning that combat at all ranges can be expected to occur. The map offers great flanking routes for players; it is common for people on one team to infiltrate the enemy base early on in the game. Expect to see battles take place for control over the temples, as they offer great vantage points for players who occupy them. Generally both teams will try to take temples in forward positions, closest to the enemy base, in order to help spawn trap the enemy, guaranteeing victory. Aside from the four large temples, intense CQC can take place in the small temple in the center of the map, and players may occasionally set up shop atop the rock outcrops.

Long range weapons such as the Sniper Rifle dominate. In addition, anti-vehicle weapons such as the RPG, Homing Missile, Minigun are also important, due to the presence of Tanks, APCs, and Helicopters which can wreak havoc on enemy lines if left unchecked. Just as important are weapons better suited to shorter ranges. Mid range weapons like assault rifles are ideal for this, as much of the combat on this map will take place at mid to long range, although close range weapons like the Shotguns also have their place on this map, as close quarters combat is a constant presence throughout this game, and will inevitably occur here. Overall, Temple is a map well suited for all playstyles, and remains a popular choice for many players.

Trivia[]

  • Temple contains perhaps the most-popular Easter Egg in the game: a hidden tomb. The developers have asked that users do not spoil the secret for others, with the community frowning upon social media posts and videos documenting exactly where and how to find this secret room. The main purpose of the room was to tease two weapons that would be upcoming: the Revolver and Crossbow. These would release in v128 and v249 respectively.
