Basics of Squads[]

Example of a Squad Tag
Squads were officially introduced March 15, 2018. They were properly implemented September 9, 2022. Squads are similar to clans found in other games.
Squad tags are a purplish blue color and sit within square brackets in front of a user's name. Squad tags do not show up in the game chat.
Creating/joining a squad[]
In the past, if players wanted to create/join a squad, they would have to use Discord (as mentioned below in the "Previous to September 9, 2022" section). That however changed, as the system was implemented into the menu of the game.
Nowadays, players may join a squad via the Menu upon reaching level 25. Players may accept invitations from squad leaders to join their squad.
Players who wish to create their own squad however are required to reach level 50 before they can have the option. Creating a squad costs 100 coins. Squad tags must be between 3-8 characters long and do not require you to add brackets. For example, typing DEV
in the window will produce the squad tag: [DEV]
(Note: this is an unavailable tag).
Removing/renaming squads[]
Squad tags cannot be renamed. A user must ensure they are happy with their squad name before confirming the purchase. A workaround can be to disband the squad and create a new one (each time costs 100 coins).
To disband a squad all leaders must leave the squad. Once they have left, the game will remove the tag from all players in the squad and make the name available for use.
Benefits of being in a squad[]
All players in a squad can see when one another is online (unless that user is using incognito mode) from the Friends tab in the Menu and join their servers. They will be displayed above friends in the Friend List. The option to remove squad members from the list is provided by the toggle beneath; this allows players to decide if they would like to only see friends or see friends and squad members.
Other than the ease of access to joining players beyond just friends, squad members may also participate in squad wars for a more active competitive experience.
Previous to September 9, 2022[]
The legacy squad system made use of the War Brokers Discord server. Requirements to create a squad progressively got stricter, especially through the spike of players in 2020. No level requirement later became a requirement of level 60 to be a leader, and the minimum players needed to make a squad made it's way up to the final requirement of five players (including the founder). Squads used to be limited to 16 players, but later allowed up to 32 members to cut back on the number of sub-squads (sister/academy/branch) squads that were congesting the community.
As the War Brokers Discord server got stricter security requirements, members looking to join squads now have to give explicit consent in the #squad-discussion channel to prove they had SMS Backup Authentication and that the leader was not trying to add a random person in against their will. A role would be created for the squad with the founder's given hexadecimal value for the color (some colors were excluded).
Squads are no longer created in the War Brokers Discord server as they have now been setup in-game.
Squad Wars[]
Squad wars are battles fought in private squad servers that leaders have available for free rental. Wars are typically held between two squads, however third-parties may be involved if both leaders agree to it. Wars are predominantly held as a Best of Three in TDM, with teams of 3v3 to 5v5. Map choices vary according to squad's preferences. There is no given benefit to winning wars other than bragging rights; no coins, cosmetics, or in-game ranks/points are assigned.
Setting up a war[]
Currently, leaders must book a server in the War Brokers Discord server with the admin developer, Joja15. There are plans to add the ability to set this up in-game in the future.
Once a server has been booked and set up, a server password is generated and given to the leaders of participating squads. These squads join squad servers from the region selections after running the client squad
command (both versions) or adding &squad=true
to the end of their URL (browser only). Squad leaders then log into the server and add players to their respective teams, set the maps to play on, and begin the war.
Tournaments[]
There are no official tournaments in War Brokers. Tournaments are run by the community and usually consist of an organized group of multiple squads competing for a community-provided prize; most-commonly a large pool of coins.
Squad List[]
The War Brokers stats page contains a dropdown in the sidebar with a list of all squads; each page showing all active members (active members are players who have played within the last 60 days).
The Discord server used to contain a channel named #squad-list with old squads, their leaders, and their requirements of entry. This however, was removed due to various complications (knowing which squads still existed, were active, or disbanded became harder).
Emblems[]
Some squads had an emblem that is unique to them. These were available for squads to apply from 2018 - 2021. Further applications have been put on hold for the foreseeable future. These emblems are redeemed as a code and are a permanent addition to the player's inventory; this means a player will maintain ownership of an emblem for a squad they are no longer in.
These emblem codes are private and not meant to be shared publicly. Begging for squad codes or offering trades is punishable. Some squads have not held their codes well, resulting in leaked codes.
They are highly unlikely to return due to the larger accessibility to squads as of September 9, 2022.
