The Somme is a small map resembling WWI trenches in a barren wasteland.
Layout[]
The ground of the map is speckled with crater holes and features three dilapidated and war-torn buildings in the center of the map. There are fences that protect each spawn and a wired barricade in the center of the map on the sides. Both the fences and the barricade do small amounts of damage when touched by the player. Both teams' spawn has tunnels that are open on top that lead under fences towards the center of the map.

Each team's spawn also features two small bunkers in the far corners of the map, and one Machine Gun Turret in the middle. The map itself has no physical barrier but if a player wanders too war away from the actual battlefield, very powerful, invisible mines can go off, killing players. These mines deter players from leaving the map.
Strategies[]
This small map often leads to a lot of close-ranged skirmishes so it's wise for players to have a close-ranged weapon equipped. The bunkers in the corners of the map provide areas for snipers to use. Grenades and Grenade Launchers can be extremely useful and highly effective on this map to stamper out chokepoints, and inflict heavy loads of AOE damage to enemy players in tunnels, bunkers, and craters. As stated above, close-ranged combat is the staple on a small map like this.
Trivia[]
- The Battle of the Somme was an important battle in France during World War I.
- The Somme map does not allow players to parachute in because in the past skilled players would snipe their enemies while they parachuted in.
- There are no vehicles on this map besides the Turret which arguably counts as a vehicle.
- There is a unity default character on the map in one of the bunkers. It has no texture and can be walked through.
- There is a glitch where you spawn in the sky and can't get down, in order to resolve this issue, press ctrl + shift + enter to self-kill yourself and the spawns will go back to normal.
