Desert is a war-torn, Middle Eastern town stuck between two opposing military bases. There is a single road through the center of town, which is blocked off by military barricades at it's midpoint. This blockade generally prompts vehicles to advance along the edges of the town instead. Surrounding the town is a desert landscape, with large sandstone mountains, the largest of these being on each of the four corners. On the very outskirts of the map are six grey silos, three on each side.
Strategies[]
Desert is one of the most versatile and flexible maps in the game. It has wide open lines of sight, especially from the sandstone mountains or the tops of buildings, paired with Close Quarter Combat (CQC) streets. The map has a Tank Level-1, APC Level-1, and a Helicopter Level-1 on both sides of the battlefield. Expect a lot of fighting in the town, as well as players and vehicles trying to advance along the outskirts of the map. Players also often take up positions on top of the sandstone mountains, especially those in the 4 corners of the map, or the various tall buildings in the town, using long-range weapons to engage the enemy. The areas between the buildings can be particularly deadly, with intense CQC taking place in alleyways and tight spaces. The open area near the center of the town next to the barricade receives a lot of traffic from both soldiers and vehicles alike. Occasionally, one team might be able to advance their forces and launch an attack on the enemy spawn. These battles often last varying lengths of time and are often a gamble for both teams. The defenders are at risk of being spawn trapped and killed by the enemy, while the attackers may have a hard time getting reinforcements and holding their ground due to the constant spawning in of enemy players, especially if they push into the enemy's safe zone, preventing teammates from spawning on them. Both sides are likely to lose many players; if the defenders get overwhelmed and pinned down, they will take heavy losses, but if the attackers take too many casualties in a costly attack, they may be forced to give up their ground and retreat back to their spawn, several points behind.
With so many nooks and crannies, corners, and angles, it is important to remain vigilant and scan your surroundings carefully. Remember, the enemy could be behind you. They might be ready to drop you from the side. They may be ready to pounce on you from above. Or they could be looking at you through a sniper scope, ready to headshot you. This map is, as previously mentioned, very versatile, and is well-rounded for different playstyles, but that also makes it more chaotic. Stay calm, remain alert, and act fast at a moment's notice, and you might just turn out okay.
Have a well-balanced loadout for this map. A close to mid range weapon will be necessary, while as a secondary a long range weapon or an anti armor weapon will work fine.
Trivia[]
- Desert used to have tunnels, but these were later removed in v128. Portions can now be seen on Heist.
