Crates are rewards given to the player for completing missions or event objectives. Opening a crate will give the player skins and accessories for the player avatar and vehicle appearance. Some crates hold each rates for the item pool, while others have differing rarity (often seen on event crates). Despite there being a rarity system for some crates, players cannot open duplicate items and are guaranteed a new reward each time. This means that if there are 13 rewards in a crate and a player has 13 of them, they will get every single item in the crate. Crates opened beyond the number of rewards will usually give the player 10 coins instead.

You can access the Crates tab in the Menu (press M).

Rarities[]

The rarities of crates have not been given any official names or explanation on their weightings/probability. A rough idea of their scale can be seen in the below table:

Tier 1 Tier 2 Tier 3 Tier 4 Tier 5 Tier 6

As seen in most crates, the rarity will not matter as every drop is the same rarity. Of the few that do have mixed rarity drops, they never have all six tiers.

Mission Crates[]

Crates awarded from missions are found in groups of four (or three for some vehicle ones). Each block of crates is separated by two missions with 20 Coins as a reward. There are four repeats of these blocks. Each crate category relates to a form of gameplay—person, tank, APC, helicopter. The first two person mission blocks award Mission Crate 1. The third block awards Mission Crate 2, and the fourth and final awards Mission Crate 3. All vehicle mission blocks award the corresponding vehicle crate.

Person Crates[]

The Person Crates are crates awarded to the player for doing missions that require you to be a person (outside of a vehicle). They are known as "Mission Crates" to some based on the icon of the crate. Each crate has three items in the item pool. Because of this, each player is guaranteed to receive a number of 10 coin rewards as players will receive more than three crates.

Players may redeem a crate for free by going to the shop menu and using the code freecrate. This will reward them with the second crate.

Event Crates[]

Event Crates show up for ZBR events in Easter, Halloween, and Christmas. While most will reward coins if you own everything in them, some crates have had additional rewards added to them in later events. As 10 coins is not a massive number, it is generally advised that you consider holding onto spares ahead of future events.

Easter Crate[]

This crate made its first appearance during Easter, 2019. Players could earn these by killing players wearing the full bunny outfit.

Easter crates made a return for Easter, 2020. Players could earn three at a time by completing a round of ZBR. The bunny and chick outfits in the crate was found equipped on enemies in the newly added Giant Bunny Royale (Easter ZBR).

Easter crates also made a return for Easter, 2021. They were earned similarly to the previous year by completing a round of ZBR. This year added new rewards which included brand new camo flags (later added to the store for purchase), a new target mask, two emotes (Zombie Shuffle and Zombie Breakdown), and the Earth flag.

Halloween Crate[]

Halloween Crate

Its first appearance was during the Halloween 2022 event. Players could earn these by collecting candies dropped by the plane during ZDC. While the message prompts at the start of a round mentioned the supply drops "will have a present in it with cool Halloween cosmetics", the Halloween crate ended up providing all cosmetics similar to the Special Crate.

On release, the crate actually provided all items. Some users received Steam-exclusive cosmetics, while some earned new upcoming cosmetics that were still in development—the most notable being the Dark Blue Glowing Eyes. This was later patched.

The fact that crates from ZDC drops were the same as winning either ZDC or ZBR was something that made winning feel less special. While there had been mentions that the loot would have to be looked at and that it shouldn't be that way, the crate remained as it was for the whole event. It is unclear if a proper Halloween item pool will be added for future events.

Holiday Crate[]

Holiday Crate

The Holiday Crate was released in the 2018 Winter event. It made another appearance in the 2019 Holiday Event ,in Christmas ZDC 2021, and in the Christmas ZBR 2024. Different parts of the full Santa outfit and full Elf outfit are included. Due to the common nature of crates in the 2021 event, Holiday Crates do not reward the player with coins if they own everything in them. Players have the option of ignoring spares or opening them (with no reward) in order to clear out the crate inventory. Holding onto them is considered the wisest due to the chance that more items may be added to the possible rewards in following events.

Holiday Crate 2[]

Holiday2 Crate

Similar to the first crate, Holiday Crate 2 was released in the 2018 Winter event and made further appearances alongside the first a the same times. It originally held all of the pieces for the full Snowman outfit, however had additional rewards added in Christmas ZDC 2021; three variants of the Holiday Suit outfit and the first dynamic skin after glowing eyes—flashing Christmas lights that drape over the shoulder. Just like the first one, these do not award the player with 10 coins if they own everything in them.

Special Crate[]

This crate has every single item in the game (including unreleased ones) in the item pool, with the exclusion of special items and Steam exclusives—moderator/dev items, squad emblems, and Katana.

Its first appearance was technically Christmas 2019 with all previously available purchasable cosmetics available. It was expanded to what it is currently for its new proper release for Christmas 2021 ZDC, with following events making it available. It is available as a reward for winning a round of ZBR or ZDC.

It shares the same icon as the Holiday Crate 2 in the inventory and has no preview.

Unused Crates[]

These crates have not seen any use. They may have had a planned use, but were later dropped. They may also have information missing.

Legacy Crates[]

Crates used to be available for purchase or as a reward and were the primary option for players to obtain skins as skin packs were rarely on sale, only showing on events. Some of these were simply an option for randomize a player's selection if they didn't want to be stuck with a choice (such as the Emblem Crate).

Daily Crate[]

Bonus crate

Daily Crate as seen in inventory

The daily crates were bonus crates rewarded to the player for their login streak. A player would earn crates in chains of two, broken up by either an experience boost or coins. Each crate was different: for example the final crate for day 14 would pull from a SWAT uniform, balaclava head, helmet with goggles, bomb vest, and both chest radios.

The crates were available early in the game's life, but was later removed.
