The Chainsaw is a melee weapon that released in the v495 update (Oct 19, 2023). It is a rather unique weapon in the game as it is the only weapon to have two separate methods of attacking/fire modes simultaneously. A constant hum of its engine can be heard while holding it (only to the player holding it).

Chainsaw will activate a dash attack when Mouse 1 is clicked. This will play a sound and make the player rush forward at a very fast speed for the opportunity to land 200 damage (or 600 from the back). When Mouse 2 is clicked, a separate sound is played and no rush of speed is experienced. This secondary attack will only land 50 damage on an enemy (or 150 from the back).

The primary attack's dash cannot be canceled. It forces the player to dash forward regardless of their other inputs (i.e. attempting to walk backwards will not slow or stop the dash). The dash can move a player up ladders. While the speed boost from the primary attack is faster than the boost provided by the Rubber Chicken, the reload time between Chainsaw's swings is long. This results in a large downtime between swings that leave the player slower and vulnerable compared to if they used the Rubber Chicken constantly. When walking normally with the Chainsaw, players move at 90% movement speed; the slowest of all melee weapons. The Chainsaw's primary attack interestingly can be partially used again during reload to dash at 100% movement speed with no sound played and no attack.

As there is little benefit to using the secondary attack due to no speed boost and lower damage, there is speculation that the secondary is intended to be held down for a constant damaging attack (similar to standing on barbed wires or in the lava in Tomb).

Design[]

Color is orange and grey with rust spots

Performance[]

Current strategies are pending for combat; however there is clear merit in the weapon for mobility. As a player can use the primary attack to initiate a dash, they may swap over to a different weapon slot such as their sidearm or grenade to bring the dash over to the faster base running speed of these weapons. This in combination with a well-timed jump can lead to long distances traveled in the air for parkour around maps—potentially unlocking some never before seen spots.

Trivia[]

  • The Chainsaw was displayed under the name "Chain" on release—it was fixed in the next update
