The Auto Sniper is a sniper rifle that was released for v477 on September 9, 2022 for all game modes.

Design[]

The Auto Sniper is based on the SVDS (Dragunov). It features a wooden grip and furniture, similar to the AK Rifle. It has a magazine with 10 rounds and is adorned with the PSO scope, making this the second weapon to feature it after the VSS.

Performance[]

The Auto Sniper is comparable to the Sniper Rifle and the Hunting Rifle. With a fire rate over five times as fast as the Sniper Rifle but having the need to get double headshots, the Auto Sniper is a high skill-high return weapon. Quick players will be able to land kills over twice as fast as they could with the Sniper Rifle. The Hunting Rifle still outclasses both weapons in close-medium ranges due to its high fire rate; however as the distance grows, the Hunting Rifle will develop too low damage and too high spread to fight alongside the other rifles.

It can be considered the easiest and the most difficult of all the scoped rifles. Its ease comes in from the more forgiving fire rate and higher clip size alongside a low recoil; players are able to make more mistakes with less consequence. Its difficulty comes in at using it at full speed on automatic fire and landing consistent shots with the PSO scope.

Of all the rifles, the Auto Sniper deals the lowest damage to vehicles and turrets. The Sniper Rifle's slower firing rate, however, means that the Auto Sniper will be better against vehicles than the Sniper Rifle.

The Auto Sniper in comparison to the Sniper Rifle can be attributed to the following statistics (against players on foot):

Fire Rate Reload Clip Base DMG DPS DPS (true)
Auto Sniper 2.0 2.2s 10 150 300 208.33
Sniper Rifle 0.35 2.7s 5 200 70 58.87

The Auto Sniper has a higher damage potential total base damage output of 1500 versus the 1000 on the Sniper Rifle; regardless, the maximum total of kills is 5 on both weapons. The primary difference between the two comes down to choosing between a fast long-range weapon or a more powerful one that can kill in one headshot at the cost of slower speeds. The Sniper Rifle shows better performance for fights where players are making very small and precise peeks that need to be checked with one shot, whereas the Auto Sniper becomes a better option for fighting players who are positioned to fire in towers, in the open, or atop buildings.

In a perfect situation where players are always landing their shots and enemies are a constant flow, the Auto Sniper will get a kill roughly every 2.7 seconds (1.35 seconds for headshots) and the Sniper Rifle will get a kill roughly every 6.37 seconds (3.18 seconds for headshots). This means that for an optimal situation, the Auto Sniper will get roughly 2.359 kills for every kill the Sniper Rifle gets.

In the time you can kill 1,000 players with the Sniper Rifle, the Auto Sniper can kill 2,359.

How to use[]

The Auto Sniper mirrors the Sniper Rifle with bullet speed and trajectory (drop), but has a different scope. This confuses some players, especially if they try using it like they would the VSS; it has the same scope overlay, but a different magnification (4x versus the Auto Sniper's 8x).

The PSO scope over the sniper scopeThe PSO scope over the sniper scope

Aiming on the PSO scope is the same as with the Sniper Scope, except you no longer have lines indicating the player's distance; that is left to intuition and memory. It is due to this that it is suggested players familiarize themselves with the Sniper Rifle and where to aim to account for bullet drop before they move onto the Auto Sniper. Having an understanding of how high to aim without measuring normally comes with some level of speed, something which the Auto Sniper intends to provide as its competing factor.

In the above example, the enemy player is a little under 400m away. Due to the magnification of the scope, the overlay is actually too small for measuring with the intended method. To measure the distance of a player in the PSO scope on the Auto Sniper, players will need to measure up from the knees rather than the feet of enemy players. The enemy's head will hit the curved line for the range they are at; measured by 100 meter markings. A player whose head sits at the 4 is 400m away.

The 1.7 in the bottom right is meant to indicate the height of targets you aim at (1.7m tall), however this is irrelevant on this scope and the Auto Sniper.

Trivia[]

  • The weapon was initially planned as a semi-automatic weapon but was released as an automatic instead
    • The update log for v477 even refers to the weapon as it was planned: "New weapon, Semi-auto Sniper!!!" — this shows just how late into development it was switched to an automatic
  • The ammunition icon for the Auto Sniper in Battle Royale incorrectly displays as heavy ammo despite actually consuming rifle ammo
  • On release the Auto Sniper did 100 damage and had a high recoil, making it more of a higher skilled weapon. The v478 (Halloween 2022) update buffed it to 125 damage with low recoil and made it more viable as an easier option for players.
  • The PSO Scope use to use black markings until v483 (December 21, 2022) when it was changed to red
