The AK SMG is a powerful sub-machine gun that holds incredibly high DPS (damage per second). It can be considered a variation of the AK Rifle with higher recoil, higher fire rate, and less range. Its code name is AK74U. It was released in v498 (Dec 19, 2023).
The Synty model design is based on the Kalashnikov AKS-74U compact assault rifle. The 'U' stands for the Russian word Ukorochenniy, which translates to "shortened". Compared to the AK Rifle, the wood portions are a less saturated brown and the gun is adorned with a picatinny rail. It is otherwise just as would be expected: a compressed—or shortened—version of the AK Rifle.
There is no attachment difference between Standard and Survival modes. Unlike other weapons in the sub-machine gun family the AK SMG uses Rifle Ammo . Each AK SMG comes with 30 rounds loaded.
Performance[]
The AK SMG as a sub-machine gun in War Brokers generally has poor range. Unlike its brethren, the AK SMG only takes 80% damage drop over range instead of 90%. This allows the AK SMG to be considerable for a further distance. Its range gives it high demand not just for CQC where other sub-machine guns and the VSS thrive, but also in close-medium combat. Maps such as Office and Space Station are good maps for it to perform, as well as really opening up on more open maps like The Somme, Zen Garden, and Siege. The AK SMG serves as a good middle ground between the sub-machine gun family and the AK Rifle.
Vehicles are typically an issue for sub-machine guns; however the AK SMG actually boasts a substantial amount of damage against vehicles. With 4.13 damage per shot at its very fast 12.5 RPS, every vehicle takes 51.66 DPS from the AK SMG. Outside of aircraft, this places the vehicle damage of the AK SMG higher than the AK Rifle and places the AK SMG in the top 5 weapons for DPS against Turrets and Tanks. For loadouts with good synergy, this places the AK SMG at the top for weapons to use on The Somme—granting high control of the players across the map and allowing decent offense against an armed MG Turret without having to sacrifice a slot for the RPG.
What holds the AK SMG back against other sub-machine guns—and potentially in early ranges where assault rifles like the AK Rifle begin to dominate—is its high recoil. The great power of this weapon comes with the trade of a high recoil that is higher than most. At a 12.5 RPS fire rate, the recoil control a player will need is much higher than players will be used to not just from the very low recoil sub-machine guns, but from the assault rifle with the highest recoil: the AK Rifle.
Due to its great close range—with better power on the closer ranges than the AK Rifle but enough range to beat out fellow sub-machine guns further out—there is speculation that a AK SMG and Sniper Rifle loadout may be the greatest overall loadout, trumping the existing AK Rifle and Sniper Rifle meta. This is particularly notable for maps with vehicles or turrets where bringing the RPG is less than ideal, or swapping out for a LMG may hurt a player in combat against enemy personnel. Maps that have some open range to them but many closed off areas for closer combat like Escape would allow the AK SMG to really flourish, with The Somme potentially being the greatest map for the weapon in the game. Maps that are much larger and more open then allow the Sniper Rifle to pick up on where the AK SMG falls off.

Trivia[]
- The 3rd person view of the AK SMG model shows a 2x Scope despite there being no scope on the weapon.
- The kills made with the AK SMG will not show up in the stats site, there is also no ribbon for it (due to the indefinite hiatus of developer Rocky Balboa).
